peppers

Post: # 119948Post shell »

my kids have got the planting bug now, they keep dissecting there food to see if they can find seeds, they then go and plant them in the plastic tubs they find,at the moment they all took the seeds from the red, green and yellow peppers i was preparing for supper, and they went and put them into plastic tubs with compost in,now i have 3 small tubs with about 30 seeds coming up in them all, they are about an inch high, never grew these before ,i was going to get the triplets to separate them out and put them into yogurt pots singulary, question?will they grow to a bush size?what would you suggest i do next with the peppers?
i also have tomatoes growing along side my flowers that the trippies put in,and there is something else growing that i cant remember what it was,as they do this without my knowing first ,they just find seeds and run and pot them up and water them,i have a higeldy pickeldy assortment growing in my green room(plastic one from argos)they all should be eatable ,they came from various dinners we had!

Hi

I doubt if you will get any fruit at this late stage in the year as the plants need a lot of sun to grow well. Try to get your children to do this again in March and plant the seedlings out after the risk of frost. They will do better in a greenhouse in the UK. The other thing to remember is that they could have been grown in a warmer climate and the seeds may not do well in your climate.

Having said that, I am growing chillies from seeds saved from chillies imported from Thailand and the Carribean via my local supermarket. I started these off in March though.

Good luck and keep the children interested. Try them with seeds from a lemon. Makes an interesting house plant.
Cheers

I am growing my peppers in my bedroom window, they aren't doing badly.
I have about 4 peppers on each, they are growing in 6inch plant pots. (which maybe be a bit on the small side, but i'm not moving them now) the highest one is only about 40cm's high.
They seen really easy to grow, I treated them the same as my tomatoes. :flower:
