Toadstools?

Post: # 116880Post Biscuit »

I've been keeping my bay tree inside for something like a year now. It's doing well, and then these suddenly popped up! Where do they come from? They look cool, but not what I want.

Fungi spores are everywhere, and they can grow for years in the soil without sending up mushrooms. I'd suggest keeping them picked to prevent a house full of spores (which can cause breathing problems for some) but other than that they're just breaking down stuff in the soil. Unless your tree looks sick its most likely enjoying the help.

Don't eat them unless you can positively ID them.

I've had those too before but they didn't seem to do any harm

they are probably harmless and probably edible (though I do not recommend you do with out advice from an expert, and I am not one) as the vast majority of UK fungus is not poisonous, but yes I would advise you pick them out and compost them.
Opinionated but harmless
