Runner beans looking a bit poorly
I planted out runner beans about 4 weeks ago. Since then they have not grown at all. They haven't died though. They are hanging in there. They have yellowed a bit.
I had them indoors in a window in peat pots, where they germinated and were all doing very well.
I suppose it's possible I didn't harden them out enough. And I might have put them out too early. I put peas out at the same time, right beside them, and they're doing fine.
We are a bit north, being on the north coast of Ireland, so it's a bit cooler up here. But I grew beans a couple of years ago with no problems.
Any suggestions about (1) what is wrong and (2) what to do?
Thanks.

You'll be happy to hear they're doing much better.
Climbing like crazy.
Still no beans but plenty of flowers.

So anyway, still no beans. What's the story with that?
The packet says harvest from July onwards.
The plants look healthy, with lots of red flowers, and climbing taller than me.

Well I'm in sunny cambridgeshire and we have only just harvested about 5 beans, so give them a chance
You wait in about 3 weeks you will be suffering from bean-poisoning you will have eaten so many! What you needed was some courgettes to keep you happy for a few weeks bfore the beans are ready- I'm all courgetted out and they are rapidly turning to marrows

Oh we have courgettes alright.
The only problem was 2/6 seedlings destroyed by wind in May. The other 4 are keeping us busy. I wish they had a pause button.
Onions are approaching readiness. I have to scout around for big ones just now, soon that won't be necessary.

Re: Runner beans looking a bit poorly
I think I have found the answer to the courgette problem.
In the past I have grown several plants so that the early ones manage to get pollinated.
This year I am growing Parthenon courgette which is one of those ones that don't need pollinating, in fact so far I haven't had a male flower ... so it's just as well.
Anyway, I am growing just the one plant and it is producing about 4 courgettes a week which I can just about cope with.
The seeds are a lot more expensive but as I only need one plant, the packet ought to last another year or 2
