befor / after

i got given and the begining of the year two water butts so i placed them next to my shed and planted some willow whips next to them so they can grow up and cover them in the latter part of the season.

I was also given some off cuts of 2 by 2 timber and made a herb planter

Brilliant, blue drums rule ok!Please put lids on them so small curious creatures dont fall in and drown. we are about to expand our water gathering system when new shed arrives so will be on the lookout for more blue drums[or other colours have 2 green 1 brown 1 black, easier colours to hide in a garden]occasionally I find them in the canal but its a worry what might have been in them before .

The herb planter looks wonderfull too. I have wondered about willow screens as it would be fun to grow a hidey lurky place to read books in peace .how easy are they to manage and keep under control. I could use prunings to weave into windbreaks and reinforce my hedges

They are very easy once they get to the hieght you want just keep pinching out the leading buds to thicken out the main growth.

thanks for the advice, should have remembered to ask you which sort of willow i could prune bits off.all i can think of seeing round here is weeping willows down by the river and a weeping arbour would be a bit mind boggling and maybe not very tall?
