Hello from deepest, darkest Surrey

Post: # 115313Post McGoohan »

I found this splendid website while Googling for a scrumpy recipe! Result!

I'm not a total pessimist and I'm not about to retreat to a cabin in the mountains or anything but I do feel the world/society etc are on the brink of something or other. Hence, me and my missus have been trying to become a bit more self-sufficient-ish.

We started an allotment last Xmas - the local council had opened up some new ones (or rather re-opened some long-abandoned ones). It wasn't a rip-roaring success. Due to the general lie of the land, poor drainage, a clay soil and a nearby culvert, it was under water until the end of February. The only thing that would grow there was kelp, I suspect.

Anyway, we have a new allotment now on a different site and it's much more of a success. I actually LIKE going there! (And I go there on my bike too, so a bit of extra exercise too.)

See you around people. :salute:

welcome mcGoohan, always happy to see new members and it is light and cheerful here, hope that helps you and your lady.
I can surely relate to your way of thinking, completely agree but we must carry on and try to be the greatest example for others :)

Hi
:wav:
I too feel something big is just around the corner for us all. I'm growing and making as much of my own stuff as I can for now, and hope to do more as I get quicker and learn to streamline things more. Best wishes :flower:

Thanks for the welcome guys. Just been down the (new) allotment tonight. It's really coming along great even if everything's coming up a little truncated compared to our neighbours. Dug over a patch of land in half an hour that would have taken all day on the old site.

And now... it's time to 'reward' myself with a glass of wine before bed. Cheers!
