Now we know it - Scots are more romantic than the rest of Britain... (Or maybe they are just more foolish?)
Article from yesterday's Sunday Herald:

Scots ready to splash out for Valentine’s Day

By Jenifer Johnston

WITH Valentine’s Day fast approaching a new survey has found that romance comes at a cost, especially for Scots.

The research found almost half (48%) of Scots expect their partner to splash out on a fancy meal, roses or an expensive gift, compared with a UK average of 37%.
More than 1000 people across the UK were questioned about their spending habits for Valentine’s Day.

The survey found that only 27% of Scots viewed Valentine’s Day negatively, compared with a national average of 32%, with 48% of Scots saying it is “a good excuse to make time for your partnerâ€Â

What IS the point of it all... a HUGE waste and a chance for retailers (both large and small) to charge extortionate prices for pretty much everything...

I got a teapot for valentine's day lol.... secondhand from Ebay - the Muggins range.. you seen them?? I love them.

Isn't it about time that Valentine's day was changed to midsummer when you could pick a rose from the garden rather than having them imported from far flung countries??

How right you are... We could have an alternative Valentine's day in summer for selfsufficient folks. The other one will probably have to stay in February, that being the month flower dealers have a really slow time of it!

It used to be an old Roman festival all the single people would be paired off and have to spend a day with someone that they did not know. Some marrages were formed because of the festival. Maybe it should be given back to everyone who is single?

I plan to cook Emma (my girlfriend) a meal as my gift, so the greengrocer will get a bit more profit rather than the florist

We don't spend lots on each other really. I woke up to a bottle of Cava and a lovely card at 7am. (OM went out to work early) I'll save the booze till later tho. We had a bottle the other night, so I guess he got a deal and saved the other bottle for today! NO, I ain't complaining.

I shall be cooking something fab for the old man. Not sure what it'll be yet, but he will have some nice nosh waiting for him later.

The supermarkets do hype it all up tho, when really a lump of chocolate in bar form, a glass of wine and a cuddle will always make me happy!

I don't think I would have even been aware that it was Valentine's Day if I hadn't read about it on a forum. Didn't notice anything to do with it last time I went to the supermarket!

And when's Pancake Day or have I missed that too?

Don't know about France, but Valentine's Day used to be nowhere as big in Germany as it is here. I think it is changing slightly. And as for pancake day, I doubt they've ever heard about that! I still don't know what that is all about, anyway.

Ina, if you are like me, just stuff the things down yer neck missus!

I love pancakes, even though I am the pancake maker standing at the stove. What I tend to do these days is make a big pile and keep 'em warm in the oven, then we can all scoff them together. (and then feel incredibly ill!)
