Poor sleep deprived man

Post: # 111937Post mrsflibble »

James starts another week of nights tonight... our bedroom is at the front of the house and we woke to this this morning:

gas main replacement. Jim needs his nap and unfortunately Sophie is asleep in her room at the back of the house, I was expecting him to go in her room anyway and snuggle up with her for a while but he's obviously got a better idea

How frustrating.

I'd be worried about the fire fighting equipment they have. Do they really think they are going to put out a gas main explosion with two red fire extiguishers?

Odd.....because I had to figure out what was going on, what with all the safety equipment and me living in Spain  If that was my neck of the woods they´d all have a fag hanging out of their gobs. But first thing in the morning....nah! they´d all be in the bar having a sol-y-sombre (rum and brandy).

Thomzo: they're not the only equipment they have, they've got a thing which beeps constantly which then beeps more frequently if they get a leak.
tuesday I'm going to have no gas at all all day :( but hey, at least they warned me lol! my boiler is gas powered, we have no immersion heater since the condensing boiler was fitted. I hope to goodnes that it's a nice day and not cold. the cooker is gas because I hate electric cookers and this one was cheap. the oven is attached to the cooker.
So, tuesday will be either a crockpot meal, microwave crap, KFC or something cooked on our single light camping cooker. I was considering asking mum if i could borrow her 4 light + grill camping cooker, but then I thought to myself; we lived for a week with nothing but a microwave and the single light sungas cooker. so therefore we can survive one flipping day!!

the workmen are really polite and nice, surprisingly. this morning they asked if I could move the volvo and I said I've only got a provisional license but that I am insured on it and can drive it with supervision so one of them offered to sit in the passenger seat while I drove it from the road into the carpark round the back of the house (my neighbour is an ex copper and after the whole james speeding thing I didn't fancy having my license removed before I've even got a full one!).

Poor James! At least the gas people are polite. Last summer we had all our roads up around here for new gas lines & they would arrive at before 8am and be shouting outside. I had a young baby at the time and we sleep at the front of the house! Oh and when they worked in our backgarden on our line they were all smoking so OH asked them not to - its our property, we had our windows open and both baby & oldest son indoors! They were really rude to him too.

Hope it is soon over. How about salad for tea. Please please no KFC, think of the hens!

Poor James!

My flat looks out onto the peripherique (the Paris ring-road) and at one point they were doing works overnight (so as not to disturb traffic, I guess)... pain in the ... neck!

Constant works going on here, too, I just hope the lift's fixed before I have to try to move all my stuff down 8 flights of spiral stairs!

Exterior noise, poor person. I get totally peed off with caged birds. Really loud ones, exoctic non-native. I love the natural dawn chorus, but caged birds from dawn till dusk. Peep Peep at 70 decibels, can't leave the windows open during the day unless I want to turn into a bird brain. Like a record that's got stuck... ahhh have to hit the sol y sombras (sun and shade) which up my way is 1 medida de anisette y 1 medida de Cognac Hielo en cubitos. A bit sweet but hits the spot, which ever recipe you follow. :drunken:

It is a very sad truth that microwaves do strange things to proteins, making them potentially carconogenic or something (so I read somewhere). My Microwave stopped working (after a child attack) four years ago, and never really missed it.

(ah here you are a link that covers all points microwave hell http://www.mercola.com/article/microwave/hazards.htm )
Dr. Lita Lee's book, Health Effects of Microwave Radiation - Microwave Ovens wrote:Microwaving prepared meats sufficiently to insure sanitary ingestion caused formation of d-Nitrosodienthanolamines, a well-known carcinogen.
Microwaving milk and cereal grains converted some of their amino acids into carcinogens.
Thawing frozen fruits converted their glucoside and galactoside containing fractions into carcinogenic substances.
Extremely short exposure of raw, cooked or frozen vegetables converted their plant alkaloids into carcinogens.
Carcinogenic free radicals were formed in microwaved plants, especially root vegetables.
Decrease in nutritional value
Russian researchers also reported a marked acceleration of structural degradation leading to a decreased food value of 60 to 90% in all foods tested. Among the changes observed were:
Deceased bio-availability of vitamin B complex, vitamin C, vitamin E, essential minerals and lipotropics factors in all food tested.
Various kinds of damaged to many plant substances, such as alkaloids, glucosides, galactosides and nitrilosides.
The degradation of nucleo-proteins in meats.

Tut tut tut ...AXJ, I'm surprised at you. I'm no defender of microwave cooking, but this lot is pseudo-scientific hogwash, full of highly-emotive words describing what happens in ANY food heating process. This belongs on the moon with Lord Lucan.

I am sure you're right, twas just the first thing I found on the internet. However I do know someone who was commissioned by the government to do a study in to meat proteins and cooking during the BSE crisis. The result was that he bacome a vegan and threw his microwave in the bin, and the goverment classified his report, and cancelled further research.

So even if that is hogwash, which I can quite image (I guess you read more of it than I did), there is no smoke with out fire.

If that isn't all hogwash, I don't have a chance!

I use my microwave loads, partly because I don't have an oven, though I'd use it loads anyway on the grounds that paying for the electricity to heat an oven up all the time when I want to cook is bound to be more expensive than the electricity used to microwave-cook.

Ah well, qui sera, sera....
