Post: # 110935Post danndans »

Hiya, can anyone help me out please :? weve got blackcurrant redcurrant and gooseberry bushes at the bottom of our garden, the thing is they dont realy produce anythin because theres trees growing over them and thy get no light.

When would be the best time to dig them up and replant them to a sunnier place :sunny:

Hi
The general rule is to move shrubs etc in the autumn after they've finished flowering/fruiting. However, all our fruit bushes were dug up when we had our garden landscaped (in a previous lifetime , 2 years ago). They were out of the ground, bare-rooted and only covered with a single layer of hessian from sept to feb the following year and they produced fruit that year!
It seems the little buggers are so desperate you can treat them pretty badly and they reward you with fruit, so it might be worth a go - too late for fruit this year though.

Just make sure you water them really well all this year if you do move them this early.
By the way - forgot to tell you we moved a huge blackcurrant in May (after it had set fruit) and it's doing really well.
