Driving theory test - ick!

Post: # 110830Post Clara »

Has anyone taken their theory test recently? I´ve got mine in 2 weeks and while I´m not worried about the multiple choice bit, the hazard perception is giving me the heebie jeebies :pale:

The main problem is that I can´t get any idea of how hard it is.....watching sample clips, it just looks like everythings a hazard and that no one should be driving around a ton of metal at speed

I´m going to great lengths to take the test (including flying to Uk for the first time in god knows how long) - I really don´t want to fail. Help, help HELP!

I can't help, Clara - when I took my test there was no such thing as a theory test! However, best of luck - and don't worry overmuch!!!

I took mine recently. It wasn't too bad. The introductory video is pretty self explanatory.

As long as you don't go overboard with the clicking you should be fine. When you see what you think is a hazard click once, if you're sure it's a hazard click again. That's all there is to it really.

Good luck.

cheers smbm - can I ask what preparation you did for it? had you had driving instruction beforehand? Being in Spain I can´t practice on the roads (with or without instructor).

My driving instructor said pretty much what I put down in the second paragraph above, almost verbatim actually.

That was pretty much it for training. There was a bit on the training DVD that I got but it turned out to be exactly the same as the introductory film they give you at the test center.

I dunno if I just got lucky but it really wasn't too bad.

There's probably some good info on the DSA website about it all.

We borrowed a dvd for when JohnM was sitting his theory and I had a go too... I it pretty simple. There are probably some on-line practice tests that you can download.

Do you have a limited amount of time in which to complete your practical test too?

Goodluck!

You can take the practical up to 2 years afterwards, but I have to do mine this summer or I am getting unvoluntarily divorced :pale:

I´m not worried about the multiple choice, I´m working my way through the book and I downloaded something (not free) last night that lets you practice both multiple choice and hazard perception in as near as possible same conditions. Its the hazard perception that I just don´t get.....and if like someone else says, you see too many hazards, you fail for that too

Form what I remember, traffic or pedestrians only cause a hazard when they stop doing what they should be doing...
eg. Boys carrying football along pavement - no hazard
Football bounces onto the road - Hazard

eg. motorbike driving along - not a hazard
motorbike overtaking coming towards you - hazard

does that make any sense?

Yes that does make sense......so do you click once when you see the "potential hazard" then again when it becomes a "real hazard", or do you have to click twice in quick succession when it is an actual hazard?

so do you click once when you see the "potential hazard" then again when it becomes a "real hazard"
That is pretty much right I think although you never actually hit anything. From what I remember its something like, boy bounces ball near to road - first click, boys ball goes onto road and car has to swerve - second click.
I did mine a few years, didnt really know what I was doing and still managed to pass, I think you will be fine.

Hi Clara,I am told by my Sister in-Law it is easier to pass your test in Spain than England even if you are not fluent!!

Not in my case! I could take the theory in English, but in order to get somewhere I can learn to drive (you are not allowed to practice in a car without dual controls as in the UK) is a 3 hour round trip (which would basically mean that one lesson would wipe out a whole day for my whole family). Plus they have this 3 strike system, where by you get three attempts to pass the whole thing (i.e. if you pass the theory 1st time you get 2 attempts at your practical, before you have to start again from scratch, and vice versa)

My plan is to pass the theory (next week :pale: , actually after doing a lot more practice online I´m not really worried about it now) and then take an intensive in August.....which conveniently also gets me out of here when the heat and fiestas become unbearable!

I found ok, I have passed it twice, and i even got a zero for one section due to clicking to often (I did click alot on that one). i didn't do any prep.

Just need to learn to do the practical part without hitting other cars
