Hi, greetings,hello......
Hi, greetings,hello......
Bon soir from a very wet and cold south west France. We, me and the old man, have lived here a while now and we try hard to be self sufficient and as "green" as possible. As our nearest shop is 10 k away, the doctor 25k and everything else even further, doing without a car is not possible. As we get (hopefully) even older the car will be even more essential, there is no public transport for 31k in any direction. We keep chickens for eggs and meat and we grow most of our vegetables and fruit. We have a very large freezer and I would love to install some method of making our own electricity but all the equipment needed seems very expensive here. At the moment we have a plague of slugs due to the rain. At least we can eat the snails even if it is a long process to clean them. When the weather dries a bit I expect the moles will be back. I hope to glean useful information from you all and if I can be of help to anyone out there don't hesitate to ask.
(I wish)

greetings, hi, hello
Welcome Dominique,
I am glad we are not the only place in the world to be so plagued by slugs, and no snails to speak of.
I'm on the West Coast of Canada, 1 acre, 1 sm. horse, 1 donkey, 2
and about 20 chickens.
We have a huge garden and do a lot of bartering and trading for what we want.
We have public transport with a mile, but chose NOT to use it as we only use the car for necessities twice a month.
Our big project of the moment is getting another woodshed built for all the wood we've gleaned in our bartering.
Hope to have a goat or 2 in the near future, but first have to get the materials to make a goat shed.
