Salut!
Salut!
I was very happy to find this forum.
As a short introduction,
I am making lots of small steps at a time towards being self sufficient.
This year I've started growing food, potatoes, carrots, onions, tomotoes, strawberries, logan berries, mint, chillis, courgettes, blackberries, jasmine, rosemary, thyme, cranberries, olives, nasturtium, Spinach beet and echinacea. I think that covers it so far. I doubt I'll get any huge crop this year but some of the plants are shooting up quickly.
I'd like to see if I can encourage some tasty fungi to grow, and start a snail farm.
I also brew my own alcohol, cider, all sorts of wine, nettle beer.
I'm fascinated by the concept of foraging (so far have just done nettles for beer and food and primroses for wine), but a main priority of mine is to learn what I can forage for and what to aviod.
When I can get out of renting and get my own land, I want livestock too, ideally chickens, goats, pigs and maybe sheep.
Also want to build my own small holding, very eco friendly.
I would love to learn how to sustainably and ethically hunt and fish for food also.
I also want to cut down the amount of electricty I use and generate all of my own, eventually. ( have a few ideas on doing this)
And I can't think of many things that would be better than to have friends round eating and drinking food and wine grown and cooked on my land.
So, just starting out but with an abundance of enthuisiasm and very excited about it!
I've already seen some great ideas and tips on this forum and hope I can give some back.
Tom.
