Combat carrot fly

Post: # 109371Post Lady Willow »

When pulling carrots, disturb the foliage as little as possible (for those who don't know it... carrot fry are attracted to newly disturbed carrots.

Once you've got the carrots safely indoors, take the foiliage out to the compost bin then bash them for all you're worth in the side of it ... the carrot fly will come running, and lay their eggs harmlessly in the compost heap, rather than your carrot patch.

Clever hey? Tip courtesy of Bob Flowerdew.

Just got back in from a long and tiring day, so the idea of a carrot fry was very welcome. Do tell, Aradia ...
