Asparagus bed
Asparagus bed
I have a small garden in Manchester where I try to grow as much veg as I can. It's more of a challenge than through necessity as I also have a fairly big allotment site... what I'd like to find out is whether you can grow anything in your asparagus bed once it's done its thing? I can't see why not, so long as it's quite shallow rooting. What do you think, all you self sufficientishers? It seems such a waste!

The problem with asparagus is it hates root disturbence, so aslong as you weren't doing that, or growing something that likes lots of water (as they hate that as well!), then you should be OK. What about herbs?, your not going to dig them up, and they like a dryish soil.
I have got a companion ref for asparagus, but it's at home and can't remember what it is.

It's not easy being Cheezy
So you know how great Salsify is as a veg, what about Cavero Nero, great leaves all through the winter , then in Spring sprouting broccolli like flowers! Takes up half as much room as broccolli

I'd love to see a photo Brenda. I love piccies of veggie patches, especially in small or difficult spots. Any chance of seeing one?
