I'm very excited about the prospect of getting new girls. OH is planning all sorts of "keep them off the veg patches" type constructions! I've stuck my name down with a fellow Isher who is going to collect some in July I believe.
Just started tipping down with rain again here, but I have managed to get a complete nappy wash dried plus my jeans. Oh and replanted sunflowers into bigger pots. I intend to plant some along my front fence for my neighbours children to be able to watch grow big - their dad has gravelled their front garden
Ratty, You've inspired me. I'm off to plant out some of the veggies right now. That's after I finish constructing the chicken wire veggie-prison to keep the naughty girls out.
And the elder flowers are out now, so it's cordial time this afternoon. Bang goes the housework again! Glad you got the nappies done - short of ringing them out on the compost heap you may have had a busy weekend ahead of you there....
I've grown onions from seed this year, first time ever. Not sure why I didn't buy sets, but we'll see how we go.
Brilliant that you've got someone getting ex-batts in July - I rang the BHWelfareTrust and they're looking at September now. I just wish more farmers would trust them to take the hens off their hands - they do not condesend or criticise do they (I don't know how they manage to keep their resolve sometimes). Still, a waiting list means that HFW's message seems to continue to be loud and strong in many.
Anyway, short of there being roast chicken everynight for the next month, I'd better go and safegaurd the veggie patch. Let's hope the east mids stays a bit drier today. At least we didn't have what poor Somerset had.
