Loving being Margo as a Newbie :-)

Post: # 105742Post ChickenChaser »

Hello,

Being a natural blonde I was a little confused to see Margo when I joined just now (Well, REALLY, Jerry!) but now I get it I'm going to go straight out and buy yellow wellies and so'wester to match, just like the real thing.

This is my second post, but thought I ought to come onto this section and say hello. I found you via a link off of the Poultry Pages and have really enjoyed reading your 101 tips. I look forward to adding to it.

We live in a 'normal' house with an average back garden and fields to the rear, but manage to keep chooks and grow our own veg quite happily.

Really looking forward to reading what like-minded others are doing out there on Planet Reality (ha ha). Off to work now though - Boo.....

Hi Brij, MKG, Red, Tim&Fatima, Thurston Garden and ina,

Lovely to get a nice welcome and looking forward to being very ish.

It's days like today surely that being ish comes to try us - the chicken's are soaking (well, they will stand out in the rain, god knows why), the young veg are flat, the dogs have trampled mud in the house and it's a long work day so everything will have to wait.

But, there's fresh eggs and the gooseberry bushes look fit to burst, so who cares???

Right, on with picking the mud out of my work shoes - you can take the girl out of the blonde..... :?

Hello. Not sure if I said hello in your previous post. I live in the East Mids too, so I feel your pain over the rain! :flower:

Hi Ratty,

Your signature is very topical for today. A canoe might have been more useful.....

We've had a sod of a day haven't we? If I hear 'good for the garden' one more time..... I KNOW IT IS... but that doesn't mean I'm not sitting here damp and cold, after chasing chickens (hence my ish name) around trying to convince them of the merits of a warm hen house.

At least the water butt is full to the brim though. Don't we just love talking about our weather? I wonder if it's inherently built into our genes like some sort of involuntary switch

Hi CC

Love your signature too! I keep trying to encourage OH to 'water' our compost heaps but he's not keen!

Dull grey sky again here today :( I'm running short of nappies so if it doesn't brighten up soon I'll have to use the tumble drier :(

I'm hoping to get some rescued ex-battery chickens soon so I might be picking your brains (along with every other chicken chaser on the site!) Be warned!

I think it's just because Britain has more weather than other countries!

Hi Ratty,

Ex-Batts are such a great idea - as you probably know, for all the bad they suffer, they are fully inocculated and therefore ready to live lovely lives with little else for their new owners to worry about other than that key moment when they discover that yes, we can run and scratch and eat all of your plants - Yippee!!! And then it's sheer gay abandon.

One thing to consider, there are lots of areas in the country at the moment that have quite a waiting list for Ex-Batts, so if you are keen to have some, then it's worth getting on a list.

And getting the OH to pee on the heap? Once they 'go there' they'll never go back. I even have to check certain vestibules to see if he's left his mark before using. Yes, it's that neanderthal. But fab compost and also really, really good for keeping foxes out of the garden

Right, my neighbour is mowing his lawn, time to beg for fresh grass for the girls - keeps those yolks lovely and golden :flower:

Oh, and Ina? You're right - enough weather for a whole continent, never mind the wee blot on the lanscape that we are really eh?
