hens and fighting

Post: # 102972Post wiggy »

A month of so ago 3 cockeralls started attacking one of then hens, then basically pinned her down and pecked her. I legged it over to her and got the boys off her - she had a bad leg but after lots and lots of TLC shes recovered - this have never happened before here and hasnt happened since - just wondering if anyone knows why they did it

If she's a young hen just coming into lay, they all knew it before you did, and all wanted a look in, especially if they were young ones themselves. Only way to deal with that scenario is remove the numbers of roosters from the mix. When ours get like that, they are banished to the bachelor acre at the back of our property.
