ZWP and the economy

With rising food prices, energy and transport costs along with the uncertain housing market, I feel events are overtaking the drive to ZWP. I have reached a certain level but I will also need to trim the budget, namely home baking will replace cake purchases. For others, in the present circumstances, the best advice is to have economic considerations as the first priority. There will be further developments in the composting/recycling/reusing field. The timescale of change will lengthen but consumers can achieve good changes with minimal cost.

I will still record the weekly waste figures and search for the many ZWP replacements. This is personal record for future reference only. In difficult times careful finance is essential, luxuries can wait until better conditions prevail.

Due to the economic situation, I have decided to suspend all topics and campaigns. My advice to others following these is to forget ZWP for a while and concentrate on surviving the squeeze. Having already achieved most of my ZWP targets I can continue but in a modest form.

I am amazed that someone that comes across so independent would stop their topics due to what seems to me as nothing more than a campaign set by out media and politicians..... In fact (I am often naive in my thinking) I would have thought that this present manipulation of our thoughts would have spurred you into more action.

There are many other considerations I suppose if you are feeling the financial squeeze than zero waste - like the use of electricity, heating, travel, paying the rent or mortgage, keeping a job or finding another, deciding if you have too many household bills and which ones you can do without.

However managing the size and number of household expenses has been a consideration long before I came down to worrying about how much waste I create. It's odd but the waste has gone down in proportion to the amount of spending done before any active consideration of how to reduce the waste I create.

Must be the state pension that has done the trick in my case.

I thought at the time this seemed a bit strange. John arrived on the site, well motivated and prepared to stick up for what he beleives in.
and then for someone who seemed so passionate about his topic, just to drop it because "life's predicaments" got in the way.
John if you are still "hanging around the site" please let us know how your getting on. and don't give up on what you believe in.
