I had some very attractive ones a couple of years back, with two-tone flowers - looked just as nice as the sweet peas I was growing alongside them! I think they are called Painted Lady - pink and red.

Mrs Moustoir wrote:The French hereabouts grow runners as floral decoration. There was a bed on a roundabout in our local town last year with runner beans growing up some pyramids.

I had to go round the roundabout a few times just to confirm what I was seeing!
Did you stop off and pick any though?

Well every single one came up and I planted them out on Saturday. I put 8 around the wigwam and then found places for the other 4 up against the fence of the veg patch where I can pick from both sides. Here's hoping!

Put out my windowsill grown mange-tout around a wigwam at the allotment yesterday night. Was not happy to see a snail making it's way towards them before I'd even finished getting them in the ground! Honestly, it would be nice if they gave me a chance!

Just checking back to see when I planted them. They are up to the top of the criss cross of the wigwam and yesterday the first flower opened up completely!

MKG wrote:MMM - nice photo. You could get a dozen plants around that easily.
Oh you are in big trouble!

I have a dozen plants, 8 around the wigwam and 4 up the fence wire that surrounds the veg patch.

Yesterday I harvested a whole carrier bagful which weighed about 9lbs on my bathroom scales. If this is what I'm going to get every week for the next few months.........

The wigwam has disappeared and they're already growing along a string halfway to the exterior fence now. I expect them to be growing in next door's maize field in about 2 weeks time.

Next year I will only grow about 4 plants!
