Critter-proofing composters

I'm sick of having the contents of my dalek dragged and deposited around the garden by various pesky creatures, and had read that you can put a layer of chicken wire under the bottom and stand it on some paving slabs, which we were going to attempt. However, wouldn't a determined rat or something be able to push its way between the composter and the chicken wire somehow? Could you somehow fix the wire to the dalek and prevent that?

I use composting liquid to provide a wet compost. The only critters I see are worms and slugs. The wet soil is not attractive to rodents.
