Watering Tomatoes....

Post: # 101680Post mew »

MOH kindly gave me a hand and watered my plants in the greenhouse last night. When I nipped in to have a look he had watered everything from top down so all the leaves on all the plants were soaking.

I know he was trying to help but I nearly throttled him when I saw all the leaves on my toms soaking wet (he learned pretty quickly not to water them this way again). Felt really bad for shouting afterwards (so quickly apologised) but it was my first year at going my own of any kind last year and I had a complete and utter disaster with my toms (Stoney diagnosed with with bacterial leaf spot in the end) so ive tried to be extra careful this year making sure they only get watered from the roots up.

The only saving grace is they were watered with tap water. Just wondered what the chances are of them catching any airborne diseases now. Since its a one off im hoping they'll be okay but just wanted to see what other folks experiences are of greenhouse toms being watered this way.

Thanks MEW

I've always watered leaved and all, never thought about it

I guess it's more important in a greenhouse than outside :?

Should be OK I would have thought, they just say its better not to (wet the leaves), I have been growing toms for a couple of years and until someone put me right I watered them all. Still got Tom's OK.

Should be OK. As long as they don't stay wet too long. If they've dried up after a few hours I don't think you'll have a problem.
