French Beans - Stake them??

Post: # 101387Post Mrs Moustoir »

My supposedly dwarf beans are romping away in the greenhouse. They are spending the day outside and then get tucked up again at night. It is raining today after a few really hot days so they're enjoying a shower.

I'm hoping to plant them outside soon but wondered whether or not to stake them with canes. They seem keen to do a bit of climbing!

Do others stake their dwarf beans? I thought about planting them a bit closer together so they prop each other up...

Never grown a dwarf bean in my life. However, your second idea - planting more closely - is what I'd have done if I had (if you see what I mean). Less bother and cuts down weed growth.

I plant my dwarf varieties along some baler twine strung between a couple of canes, then they have a bit of support if they need it.

I let my dwarf beans grow as they will, without any support. They seem to do fine without any support.
