Well done to the kids with the good vocabs.

My just turned two year old has a wide vocab and uses sentences up to 5-6 words long but usually 3 words long, yet the middle of last year there were concerns that her speech was quite 'delayed'. I was told back then that children tend to develop one area at a time so while one is learning to talk another my be learning to dress themselves (for example), so not to worry, easier said than done though.
Just because I can't do everything I won't fail to do something.

My daughter taught herself that a horse was an aggy. Never worked out where that came from. She was four when we went to live in the Netherlands, learned very quickly to speak Dutch to her friends and English to us, never got the two confused, and continued for the best part of a year to play with her toys in Dutch when we returned to the UK.

I wouldn't worry about kids and language - they get by as and when they need to.
