AXJ Another Xtreme Jardinero

Post: # 100662Post AXJ »

Hi there, I am an urban gardener, what I call xtreme gardening. I have a balcony and some window boxes. I am really hoping that this excellent foro will help us AXJs to make the most of our non-garden limited space. Currently have pimentos, tomatoes large and cherry and radishes on the go, looking to add beans, peas, sun flowers and may be a pumpkin. Although even for an AXJ this might be pushing it. Anyway, I am going have a good browse round the forum, see if I can find any better ideas ... see you all soon :-)

Hiya, and welcome to the forum!

So I was an AXJ for several years in the 90s, and didn't even know it! I did grow a pumpkin on the balcony - it was a very small one, though. I had a blackcurrant bush, too. Beans were good - they climbed up the wall onto the roof...

Hello, :flower:
I would love to see some pic's of the set up you have!
I do have a garden but not much inside space, I think showing how you use the space you have, might be inspiring to many, on their best use of space.
Take care
Xe

Hi everyone, thanks for the warm welcome. So the pumpkins are a hard one, but could be entertaining for the children, if we can get a candle in it on halloween that'll do nicely otherwise cream of pumpkin soup. Yum.

I'll be happy to share some pics as it goes on. Pity that all the radishes have been pulled and eaten, it was a miniture rainforest canope for a while. Now the slower growers have got light and air to get going. Mainly toms and pimentos, also some poppies for decoration and seeds.

Had to wait an age before I could tell the weeds from the seedlings, but that is now sorted... so surprising amount of free space suddenly rendered. The kids want more radishes, they'll get a few but I fancy something a bit more interesting, done that one!

The real challenge will be supporting all the climbers, it is going to require some serious bamboo work.

I'll post over on a thread about balconies and window boxes I have started when I have something to report or pix.

cheers =8¬)

Well for decoration and seed, the kids love the flowers so first the decoration then the seed. I bake my own bread and rolls, never been one for naroctics, far too depressing, now if we were talking about hemp, that would be another story. Give the sun flowers and the poppies a race, that's my bit of fun with the kids, also beats net curtains in the summer evenings. :flower:

Don't know what your balcony looks like - but mine was on the top floor, so I just had some nails in the wooden side of the roof (I'm sure there's a proper word for it  ), and tied string to it for the climbers.

I have to say you extreme gardeners are fantastic,

I love the fact that people can...no will garden for food where they can! you guys are an inspiration!

What with the need for growing our own becomming ever more neccessary, and less and less housing having a decent (if any) garden!

It is going to sound so naff! But good going all! Spread the word...!

we can all do our bit!
take care
