chocolate

Post: # 100156Post red »

I know - there is nothing self sufficient about eating chocolate.. and its fattening and bad for you and stuff... anyway...

I was always a confimed cadbury's fan.. as far as I was concerned it had to be cadbury's. But recently have taken to eating co-op fair trade chocolate.. which is totally different, but have developed a taste for it.

Green and blacks milk choc is by far the best... luckily not available in my village.. or I would buy it all the time..

Cadburys doesn't taste like I remember now. have they changed it? I noticed some in the shop was marked 'Made in France' - which shocked me.. i mean.. theres cadburys world and bournville and everything..made in France!!

is it different or is it just me?

Well, if it's made in France now, it should be better... Because Cadbury's wouldn't even be called chocolate on the Continent! It's cocoa flavoured confectionery.

I remember hearing that Terry's chocolate oranges are made in Poland(I think) now, too. And Green & Black's is made in Italy. So not much left in Britain.

(Btw - the local village shops around here all sell G&B's!)

Red, try German chocolate from Lidl, or where available. The card, tin foil packaging adds to the pleasure. Plain chocolate is supreme.

not if it is the same recipe. in which case it would just be French cocoa flavoured confectionery!
I dont mind the imported factor.. after all the sugar and cocoa were.. but cadburys is such a British name.. we even make our chocolate different to the rest of the world
if we went abroad we always fell on the different tasting chocolate of France etc.. how ironic that France now makes un-French like chocolate...

I just read that green and blacks were bought out by cadburys anyway....

Yeah, I know - the same with Terry's! I got one as a child from somewhere - can't remember who, maybe my sister, as she'd lived in the UK before I was born even - but that was always essentially British to me. Same as Cadbury's, although I don't like it any more...

NOOO!!! G+B has been bought by Cadburys... is there ever going to be a chance for anyone else but the damned multi nationals to make any money ever???

G+B 70% dark is the best...hmmm... I used to buy the stuff from Lidl for cooking but it isn't fair trade, and it is hardly an essential so when I want some I buy fair trade Santadomingo (some times it is also organic) from Sainsburys.

I don't mind the shipping from the other side of the world, it balances out with buying from economies that are not as strong as ours, and giving profits and jobs beats giving aid any day.

I think I'll have to make more use of the chocs sold at Fair trade shops etc... Church sales have very good chocolate - the problem is that they don't happen very often! (Mind you, that's a positive, too: if I restrict myself to buying the chocolate there, I won't eat so much! )

Edited to add: maybe I better make sure those companies haven't been bought by Nestle or Cadbury's yet. :?

It was bought in May 2005... well I have my finger on the pulse don't I

I do believe that nearly every bar of G+B I have ever bought was from Cadburys :pale: *sigh*

Damned multinationals! Is there a chocolate that isn't owned by some evil, universe-destroying conglomerate? One as good as G&B?

As I mentioned, the stuff I've bought in fair trade shops and at church sales is pretty good - can't remember the make at the moment. (There's not just Divine - they aren't organic - there's another one which is better, I think. I shall try to find out...)

But Lidl do do a faretrade bar - and it's nice! It has cardboard packaging that can be recycled too!
