Re: Homemade sowing / potting mixes?

I've been spreading out leafmould, letting it grow a flush of weeds, weeding it, then doing the same again. So far so good, the weed problem is minimal. Quite lucky to have a large formal garden near me where I know the gardeners really well - they have a big pile of ten year old leaf mould and they...

Re: Homemade sowing / potting mixes?

I've always had good experiences with leaf mould - straight and mixed, the older the better. Always worth having a supply of it.

Re: Interesting & tasty alternative crops for this year's ga

Pignuts are really tasty!! I think EU is fine, American things are okay too it just might take a long time and from what I hear they tend to riffle through just about everything. You only have to grow things once to be a British supplier (saving seed/tubers etc), I'm surprised more people don't comm...

Re: Interesting & tasty alternative crops for this year's ga

Hello everyone. I'm keen on growing some quamash too if anyone finds them, not come across them before they sound like a fun thing to grow. Also yakon and oca would be interesting, I've drawn a blank trying to find tubers on the internet. I had some success with Chinese Yams last year, http://en.wik...

Casper - I meant to say something at the time you posted this but I got side tracked. This is an absolutely fantastic post, really helpful and well presented, if you don't mind I'll put it up on the main site this Autumn.

Re: what to do with a burnout?

Berti - Believe me, what ever you are going through will get better. Life has a tendency of dealing us crap when we don't need it (do we ever need it?). I've had my fair share and have to be philosophical during those times, a belief it will get better and it ALWAYS does, don't loose perspective. If...

Hello Greenoreise - I don't know who stocks it in Ireland, Andy seems to know that kind of thing. You could see if your local Bookshop will order it in, mine does with most things.

 Thanks Al! The quotes after your post reminded me of the man song - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7Y0I91rubg by Sean Morey, have you seen it?

Happy Christmas.

Re: Selfsufficientish Bible sells 12 000 copies

Hello Mike - We're told the sales figures whenever we ask for them. I think it's nearer 13000 copies now. I'll ask again after Christmas. Thanks to everyone who realised there are two names on the front cover ;)

Someone said they were ready here too, I'm sure it was a couple of weeks later than this last year. Will take a look when I get a chance to escape my desk
