i would recommend making sloe gin.

i have done this before, and if you pick when the fruits arrive (normally best after first frost i believe), then the gin is generally ready for chrismas time, and once the gin is drunk, the sloes go well with ice-cream.... yum!!!

yea good point m3.. and after all its all a learning experience for me, and to be honest i am just glad of the chance to get out there and do some digging... sad isn't it, but i actually enjoy digging. its perfect anti-dote to my daytime job!!!!

yeah just done some reseach... couch grass,, yup thats the stuff i've been cutting down!!!!

looks like my works gonna be cut put for me!

lots of hemlock up there, which is pretty easy to get rid of.. interesting to see in such a large amount.

better on the environment if you don't though!? Shall I stop waffling now?! yeah good point, i was thinking that today when i was up there. i'd prefer to do as much by hand, and well, there is no rush really. i'll be up there friday on my day off - might take the digi-cam. thanks for the advice !

cheers ina, we have a third of the allotment ready for planting etc.. if i did want to use the bit that i am clearing, would it be better for me to use a rotovator (i don't really like the idea of using one...) or would it be better for me to actually do the hard work of digging it by hand, and turn...

so had two good times up there, digging one of the plots that is ready for use, and cutting back a lot of stingers and grass from the other plot... the allotment is on the top of the biggest hill in brighton, and i live at the bottom - so its all good exercise ,cycling up there then doing some work!...

i did a search on google and found a left handed sickle,. so i think i will buy it!!! (although i think shiney is right, back handed sickle action would be safer!!) it is amazing, that left handed people do have it hard, even in this day and age. scissors!!! what a nightmare, took me a long time to ...

left handed tools!!!

bought a sickle today to aid in my clearing of allotment, and ofcourse, all sickles in shop are right handed... looks like i am gonna have to be ambidextrous or cut on the back hand...

any other lefties out there with tool trouble?

hello. a friend of mine has an allotment, and was finding a little too much to keep, so i've started sharing it with him and his girlfriend. was great up there, very over grown, but much fun cutting down nettles, grass, and brambles to clear pathway between the beds. can tell next few months is gonn...

i've always wondered why exercise bikes in gyms and other gym equipment isn't used more to generate electricity. - granted the amount generated wouldn't be a lot,. but considering the number of people in this country that go t gyms, it would account for something i am sure.
