We moved out to France nearly three years ago, and for the first 2 years tried to be totally self-sufficient, even down to solar panels. We loved keeping all the animals..pigs, geese, ducks, rabbits and chickens..BUT unless you have enough land to grow your own animal feed..corn, oats, hay etc by th...

Do we drink cider, Dibnah we drink ANYTHING!
Millymollymandy, yes it is us with the sidecar, but old Nora is to be sold. It was a great laugh for a while but decided we were too old.

Actually Stonehead Nora is a Dnpr.

The reason she is called Nora is because every time you hurtle around a corner you end up screaming Bl..dy Nora!

Jackie French books

Bonjour Nev, How are you? Must be getting into spring down your part of the world. I just remembered a preserving recipe in Jackies book that uses cherries instead of olives. I must dig it out and post it in the recipes site. I had a go with one jar..just in case..and they were great. I shall do sev...

Believe me Stew there's giving into old age and growing old gracefully. But there's also knowing when you are taking your life in your hands. I wanna live to grow old disgracefully. One time we came back from the launderette, washing strapped to every available panel on the bike. Half way home we go...

Eau de vie

We used Kirsch instead of eau de vie because Kirsch is like cherry eau de vie so the flavour was even stronger.

Kirsh

Ina I think you made the mistake of using a sealed jar, Rumtopfs lids just sit on top so the air /gases can escape. Stonehead I've done the all season one as well..very good. It's just that I've got 5 cherry trees so there was rather a lot of cherries..infact I ended up pipping over 2,000 of the lit...

recycling

In France every village has a mayor. If we tried to slip some unofficial recyclable rubbish into the generic bins and the bin men discoverd it they would report it to the mayor. They would then seek to find out whose rubbish bag it was and we would get a visit from the mayor. We might get a slap on ...

mobile sheep pen

Don't see why you couldn't use it for sheep. Think you'd have to have a top on it though, aside from the tarpaulin that is --little buggers can jump quite high--you'd be lucky to see a pig with two feet off the ground at the same time!!

Much stricter

They are MUCH stricter about recycling in France..none of this can't be bothered lark. Maybe, as usual, we are too soft in England.

poly tunnel

I would like to hear from anyone with poly tunnel experience too Steve. Last year I bought a second-hand frame and sent off for the plastic sheet.I went for the slightly more expensive thermal plastic. Unfortunatley with all the renovation work weve been doing, putting the polytunnel up hasn't had p...

Cherry (Kirsh)

If any one goes on a booze cruise to France be sure to pick up a bottle..or two.. of Kirsh. It's 40% proof....now I've got your attention!! Then you take a big jar or Rumtopf and put in equal amount of cherries and sugar. Cover with Kirsh. Cover the pot/jar and stir once -twice a day till it stops f...
