Rhubarb

Hi guys, Just a quick question.... My rhubarb has been growing nicely all summer and has been fine - not picked any stalks yet as I know you're supposed to leave it at least a year to settle before taking a crop but..... All of a sudden the leaves have turned yellow! Could itbe crown rot? If so I ca...

Re: garlic & onions

I'm thinking about growing some garlic, would be ok in a 'deepish' trough - planter, thingy?

I've got a bit of wasted ground at the bottom of my garden and thought if I built a planter, say 12-18inches deep, say 6-9 inches wide and maybe 3-4 feet long - would that be enough to grow garlic in??

Re: Ripening Chili's

Unfortunately my partner's not one for having 'plants indoors' she thinks it makes the place far too messy! She's not much of a plant lover and she's not all that impressed that I've managed to convert a third of the back garden in to raised beds for various fruit and veg - she thought the...

Re: Ripening Chili's

Thanks guys, I did do a search but didn't find anything...

Didn't think drying them on string would turn them red but it obviously works - will give it a shot

Ripening Chili's

I've got several chili plants with tons of green chili's on them currently on some outdoor racks. The variety's I have are Cornio, Banana and Jalepeno - The purple chili's are supposed to be purple when picked aren't they??? Due to the not so hot weather only a few have ripened to a nice r...

Re: Courgette Plants

Thanks for the replies guys, They are planted in a raised bed along with some rhubarb which is growing very nicely :) To be honest though, it is a newly raised bed and I didn't put all that much compost in as I had literally filled it with about 1/3 of a ton of topsoil and leftover potting compost t...

Courgette Plants

I planted some courgette plants this summer that had been kindly donated but unfotunately they didn't produce, so I'm wondering what to do next... Should I just leave them? Will they survive the winter? If they do are they likely to produce anything next year? Or Am I better just to dig them up, add...

Re: PLanting Garlic

Think I'll take Big Al's suggestion and plant in pots and see what happens.

PLanting Garlic

I know usually the time to plant garlic is in late autumn/early winter to be harvested mid summer - but! I'd forgotten about some garlic in the fridge and they've started sprouting! Is it worh sticking them in the ground and see what happens? Or am I just wasting my time?? Thanks for any advice! :ic...

Just one more thing, should I keep raising the side's of the bed or just leave the shoots as they are now?

Christmas Potatoes

Hi, I planted some King Edward and 'salad' (not sure what they were!) in early August in the hope that I could possibly be eating my own potatoes in time for Christmas. I've put the majority in a raised bed and one in its own (long and high) pot. All seem to be doing well except I know (well I read ...

Re: Chilli Plants

Fair enough.......just seems an awful long time for these Chilli's to grow!

I'm sure I'm doing some thing wrong, but like you said, I guess I'll have to be patient :(

Thanks for the advice!
