I feel with you - my little cats haven't been out yet, but I dread the day they do go out and the inevitable day they won't come home...
But I do think tomcats sometimes get up to these away-days, even if they've been "done" - so don't give up hope yet! I'll keep all my fingers crossed for you.

The Other Half had two cats a few years back. One died of old age, then the other vanished. We though the worst as we lived near a very busy road.

Then, a few weeks later, we spotted the missing cat while out walking. It was definitely her cat as it came over to say hello, then disappeared again. We saw it on and off over the next couple of months, and eventually decided that it had adopted a new family — not least because it was putting on weight.

It had obviously decided to seek a cushier life...

Cats aren't like dog, they choose whom they want to live with or near by. Our year old cat disappeared last year, we don't know what happened to him as we are not near main roads. We now have a rescue cat who seems to adopted us to the extent of following us around like a dog.

Have you knocked on all your neighbours doors or put flyers though their letter boxes asking them to check their sheds, garages etc? Then contact the local vets and see if any injured cat has been picked up, ditto any cat rescue places.

Does your cat have a tattoo or microchip or phone no. on tag around collar which will help in IDing him?

the vet is a very good place to look - phone all the local vets. Because if a cat is injured.. it can be taken to a vet.. and then the rehome it if no one comes forward. Vets always have lists of cats that were previously owned looking for homes.

fingers crossed.

Sorry to read about your moggy, tea.

I expect you have but in case not, have you asked your neighbours to check their sheds, greenhouses and garages? Mums cat went missing for days and turned up locked in someones summerhouse. (Very thin but lived to a ripe old age after that) The neighbour had only opened it for a few moments and mum's cat must have slipped in unseen.

that's the thing, not knowing what happened. If you can see they have died or decided to live else where you would have closure.
