Valentines

Post: # 83272Post Annpan »

Has anyone got some good Valentines ideas?

We always make our own cards, we usually get the day off of work and watch DVDs and eat lots of popcorn, pizza, burgers (all home made 'junk food') It's just about spending time together.

We usually give each other a few DVDs, CDs or books.

We don't get into the bears holding lovehearts, balloons and red stuff...

This is only our second year with a sprog around... I can't remember what we did last year :?

Anyone got any other ideas for how we can all make it special... in a non-commercial way?

we tend to do something both of us enjoy; rent a dvd we've not already got, get take out and watch the dvd whilst eating.

We don't bother. It's much better, and less commercial, to do nice things at unexpected times all-year round.

Aww Russ - you big ol' romantic you! It's tru tho - loving someone is about doing it all day and every day no matter what life throws at you - it doesn't take just one day to do that. It's a bit like assuming that because you have a big posh wedding you'll have a happy marriage!
Why not do Valentines day the other way round? Make that day of the year the one on which you have your only argument and be lovely to each other for the rest of the year!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

we dont do the valentines commercial thing either.. load of tosh.. but I like to make the little celebrations - last couple of years we have had a large meal with large group of friends.. everyone has to bring something red or heart shaped for food.. kinda fun..

this year I have decided we will do some heart-shaped baking - my son and I - biscuits.. or cakes.. and in the evening make home made pizzas.. heart shaped bases.... we are just making it a fun family evening- just the three of us

We never do anything, so boring! I just can't get excited about Valentine's day. Our anniversary is on the 10th (nearly 3 years now!) so we're going out for dinner for that, and it seems silly to have two 'occasions' so close together...

We've got a bottle of champagne from France in our wine cupboard, so we'll probably take the dogs for a walk, make our favourite meal and drink the champers....

One year, as rather cash strapped students living in different cities, Mr. QB and I set each other the challenge of making each other a model insect made from items found around our houses. We then posted them to each other (they had to be small).

I made Mr. QB a spider made of a cut up washing up sponge, elastic bands and an emery board and he made me a scale bug made out of plastic bag ties, a drawing pin and a rubber ball.

They're wonderful and we've still got both of them. Insects worked for us because that's what we're both interested in but the theme could be anything else. The point of the exercise is, it's something home made and lots of thought has gone into it.

Nice one QB!

Yes I tell Mrs Wombat I love her every day and turn up with flowers or other bits on a regular basis, but we are both soppy enough to enjoy Valentines. We do sometimes go out together, but sometimes I am away so it has to wait until I come home.

This year I will be home!

for once this year we are going out... though not on valentines. we'll be going on that weekend.
and it'll be a cheap one. my brother is babysitting for the princely sum of one £5 itunes voucher  and we will go out using a voucher james got from the higher powers at work. Basically, whenever the company mess up a bit, they shower their staff with affection so they don't leave. the size of the bonus gift is directly proportional to the size of the cock-up.
2007 it was a £25 grass roots voucher. 2006 it was £50 in leisure vouchers and an application form for money off First bus travel, and the year before it was 2 boxes of lindt chocolates.
so our night (ok, 2-3 hours tops!) out should only cost us the price of drinks, itunes voucher and a taxi. unless we go to the wetherspoons in town then it's just the price of the drinks. :D
oh how I love my tea, tea in the afternoon. I can't do without it, and I think I'll have another cup very

I'm making Richard some biscuits. I'm just making shortbread stars at the moment, I made gingerbread hearts yesterday. And I might push the boat out and make him a HUGE chocolate cake, if he's good.

He had some hair-brained idea of making me a spice-rack out of some wood we found (well, nicked out of a skip....), but I have yet to see any evidence of said spice-rack..... :?
I took my dog to play frisbee. She was useless. I think I need a flatter dog.
