Peacock moulting time - wahoo!

Post: # 81303Post possum »

so the peacock is moulting, I have picked up about 20 tail feathers in the past couple of days, so now that I have these beautiful feathers, what do I do with them? (and no doubt a lot more to come)

Well I have a lovely pair of earrings made from the eye of the feather the eye has been whiplashed on to an earring hook wire they make you feel so glam! also i have seen a table top made out of peacock feathers the feathers had been arranged in a pattern and then a sheet of glass laid on top it looked very yummy I also use them in flower arrangements and corsages and head dresses, Hope that helps :)

Learn to juggle with them!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

thanks, but I think MAF might object slightly (OK very strongly) to plants being posted here. In NZ MAF are feared more than the police.

Well we had to go through the red channel because shock horror we had (cleaned) walking boots in the suitcase - are we evil or what?
Actually the bee thing is a big problem here as the industry has been very badly effect by the varoa mite.

My gran wouldn't have peacock feathers in the house - she was convinced they were very unlucky!

I have heard that, but I am not superstitious. I guess it maybecomes from the end of the feather looking like an eye.

You could frame a selection of them, they could look good in an old fashioned fire screen.

I like the idea of having a very posh feather duster.

I can give it a go, any particular feather that you are after, I assume a tail one, but there are different ones in the tail, you have the very long ones which don't have the eye at the end, long ones with and eye at the end and shorter ones with eyes at the end, then you have the ones from the side of the tail which have the eye, but also have turquoise sort of fern effect on one side.

You could use them for a bouquet
http://www.hibiscusflorals.com/Product_ ... ct_128.htm

or make 'feather eggs'
http://craft.dow.com/proj/508.htm

If you don't like to use a styrofoam ball as a base you can make a ball from strips of rag wound tightly (I have a basket full of rag balls and wooden spools as a decoration on a table)
