Possible potato problem?

I don't know if this is a proplem or not but I have never seen in before

a few of my potato plants have flowered and the flowers have now dropped but today I saw in their place some green growths that look almost like tomatoes! They are fleshy inside and look as though they have lots of tiny seeds in, its a little hard to tell as everything is the same colour

Does anyone know what they are?

I didn't think they could be seeds as I though the potatoes where the seeds, if you see what I mean?

I have no idea what potatoes I planted as we buy a large sack from the local market and I just saved and chitted some of those so they may of been different varieties

ohhhh interesting, I think I'll save some and try planting them next year :)

Our potato seeds? were in the reduced bin, they were all strangly and sprouting, at our local (but rather posh) garden centre. We got stacks of them from about a dozen plants. Result!

excellent. I got some like that last year from B&Q. Had to peel the netting off were they had all grown inbetween it but they grew great

I've got these on my spuds but I as told by the old timers that they were next years seed potatoes and they would not grow as they would contain too many diseases ...they told me to chuck them out so I did...into the compost....I now wish I'd kept them . I will in future

Actually, the true seeds contain much fewer viruses than the tubers (spuds) I think most, if not all, the commom spud viruses are spread through the tubers.
It is just much more of a gamble propagating through the seeds, you never know exactly how they will turn out. But that is how all the new varieties come about! So someone, somewhere does it!
