The local news here in the East Mids are running a horrid story about a lamb that was found with it's ears cut off. (The farmer has it back & is hand rearing it)

The thought is that a recipe called for 'Lambs' Lugs' and some idiot didn't know that this was a PLANT!

Every day I read more and more about cruelty to people and animals and I have come to the conclusion that yes, people are getting more cruel and insensitive and more and more detached from the real world

Not like the good old days, where corporal punishment was revered and there was no welfare state, treat em mean, keep em keen!

Not to mention Bear, Dog and Cock fighting, along with bare knuckle boxing being quite the Gentlemen's evening entertainment!

I'm not entirely sure that the world is getting more cruel, just that we hear about it much more nowadays. Once upon a time, the news was confined to an hour a tea-time, which had to cover all the news from all around the world, so only included those events that the news editor deemed worthy enough of the air-time. Newspapers, similarly, had limited space and could only cover those events that their journalists had heard about.

With the advent of 24-hour news channels and the internet, news is much more readily available, all these stories come to the surface and, suddenly, we think the world is a much worse place than it used to be.

Cold-comfort, people are cruel and the world is a cruel place, just no more cruel than it used to be.

You are right Thomzo, I thought the same thing after I made the posting, there is so much access to information and news from around the world and it all seems to report dreadful things, I think maybe I should do like that Swedish man did and stop reading the newspapers so as I can't worry about all the bad stuff and cheer up a bit

I'm not sure that people are thick - I think that they are not educated in a lot of basic things. Like cookery (or they would know that lambs lugs are plants). Or budgeting. Or keeping house.
