Following some metions of the game Settlers of Catan in the favourite board games thread I thought I'd mention an expansion for it that I got yesterday. It's based on the idea that oil has been found on the island and you can use it to but more resourses and build bigger towns. So far so evil captalist oil producing gits right? However the cool bit that I tought might appeal to ishers is that if you use too much oil you cause climate change including flooding and pollution and can eventually lead to the destruction of the island and the end of the game. Also if you gain oil and deliberately choose not to use it you gain rewards for being The Environment Champion which can help you to win the game.
I thought it was a really nice idea demonstrating the dangers of using fossil fuels and rewarding players for choosing to go about expansion of their "empire" without damaging the world they inhabit.
Also I found it in a nice little independent gaming shop in Bristol so got to support a local business well.
