You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Spicy Black bean burgers

Post: # 25030Post Hillbilly »

Shirley and I had some of those Cauldron Black Bean Burgers the other day for lunch. My god they are gorgeous but a tad expensive so I tried to recreate them last night.

1 can black beans, drained,rinsed
1 tablespoon oil
1 cup diced mushrooms
1-2 teaspoon chopped garlic
1/2 cup chopped onions
1/4 teaspoon cumin
1 can green chili sauce
2 tablespoons salsa
1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs

Place beans in a large bowl.
Heat oil in a large frying pan.
Add onion, garlic, mushrooms and cumin.
Saute about 2-3 minutes over medium heat.
Add your green chili sauce and saute another minute or two.
Place in bowl with beans, let cool and mash with whizzy buzzy handheld thing.
Add salsa, chili powder, flour and breadcrumbs.
Stir to blend ingredients
Form in 4 burgers. They can be grilled or shallow fried.

Serve in homemade rolls with homegrown lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and mayo...oh lord I am hungry.
