First Fall frost of 2011

Post: # 247138Post Durgan »

24 October 2011. The first significant Fall frost for 2011 appeared for the first time in my area Zone 5. Approximately 150 days frost free for the season. Winter is slowly creeping in my direction.

We've had 3 now, two barely noticeable and one a bit more white frost on the grass. The only things that have been semi killed are the squashes, courgette and the marigolds which are just a bit frosted on the top flowers. Everything else still happily growing including tomatoes.

We've usually had harsher frosts by now and one year our first (albeit mild) frost was 1st September!

However everything has been picked/harvested/brought inside and the weather forecast watched like a hawk for the remaining tender plants outside i.e. geraniums and plumbago.
