Right at the bottom of Richie's list, but John Mayall's "The Blues Alone" is what did it for me.

I tend to like albums rather than artists(when i first heard Blues from Laurel Canyon i was blown away, and 40 years later I still am.

Anyhow to all the above I'd add : Elmore James

Memphis Slim

Richierobins has named most of them but the ones I saw in the clubs in London in the sixties, that turned me on to the blues, were John Lee Hooker and Sony Boy Williamson.

Further to John Mayall and now Sonny Boy Williamson ...

I hear Sonny Boy blow
I hear Sonny Boy blow
I hear Sonny Boy blow - ow -ow
I hear Sonny Boy blow

Repetetive, maybe. You had to be there.

Oh - if you're wondering ...

He's a mean old man
And he can blow his horn

I may get into a little trouble here, I realize my fav is NOT a blues style music,
But the lyrics (at least of 3 or 4 of their theme albums) is deeply sad and blue.

BB King.

And, if Minnesota can add Pink Floyd, then I have to add Jimi Hendrix. Man he sure could play the blues!
