Mushroom in Ploughed Field !

Post: # 211413Post Troy Tempest »

Hello all.

These came as a big surprise as I foud them in a field ploughed only about 3 weeks ago. (Clayish soil)
Both vey young with the cap just clear of the ground.
Cap diameter 6cm. Full length 12cm.
No sign of ring/veil.
Mature examples are about twice the size, brittle and with a slight purplish hint.

Please help!

Hi Troy and welcome to ish. The mushrooms could be volvariella gloiocephala. They vary in colour from white through to dirty grey/brown with a slight violet tinge.

Incidentally, which part of the world do you live? ... Africa? ... Iceland?.. it does have some bearing on fungi ID. There is a species consumed in Asia/China which closely resembles our death cap, sadly with disastrous results, see the link below.
