Defrosted Freezer today

Post: # 208347Post pelmetman »

We decided to move our big freezer into the utility room along with the other one today. It had been in an outbuilding and because it was out there I never seemed to use it like I should. And of course it was in desperate need of defrosting and a general clean out. I have always hated this job but because it was being moved it was the obvious time. Usually I have trays underneath and loads of towels etc to mop up the water. Today we put it outside in the sun and hey presto before we knew it was all thawed out and no mess.

Why I'd never thought of this before I don't know :dontknow:

I did mine yesterday but as I can't heavy lift it had to stay in the kitchen. I took to lumping it with the meat tenderiser (don't worry it's wooden!)

Very theraputic it was too!

I managed to do my upright one in the spring and just about got everything from it into the chest freezer and some eskies.... no way I can ever do the chest freezer even though it needs it and right now is very much the wrong time of year for defrosting any freezer!

Argh! Freezers!

The one thing i asked before i left here for the summer was that they left my freezer on...and they turned it off while i was away and then turned it on before i got back...so there was frozen mould in the freezer! It's so stinky!

I took the drawers out and put them on the balcony, left them overnight and had to mop the balcony the next day. Most annoying was that i had a gorgeous veggie risotto in the freezer for me to have when i came bcak so that i didn't have to go and buy food...it was white when i went in, and green when it came out. Gah!

How very annoying, can't you claim from who ever turned it off?

MMM I totally agree that it is the wrong time to defrost but I knew that if I didn't bring the freezer indoors now I certainly wouldn't do it in the winter. Actually it wasn't too bad as I have a lot of freezer bags and blocks, just put them all in a cool part of garden and everything was fine. Think I bought one of my freezer bags from France which is much much bigger than anything for sale here.

You wouldn't have done that round this way today, it'd have become a bath

Sunday, now that was another matter. It was lovely.

When I lived near Geneva I would pick a day in winter when it was about -8C or something and then just bung everything into eskies and put outside whilst I defrosted! Worked a treat! If I did that here I'd have to do it in the middle of the night as thankfully it doesn't stay that cold during the day.
