Help writing cryptic clues.

Post: # 199132Post marshlander »

The WI is visiting for a strawberry cream tea in the garden on the 17th (praying for good weather!) and I'm trying to write a treasure hunt with clues to items to be found in the garden. e.g. 'Tempus Fugit' = a sundial
'Once a week in front of the fire' = a tin bath
I'm still looking for clues to a chimney pot, an angel sculpture made from wire and a statue of Baccus

OOOOOOHHHHHH. I love treasure hunts. And cryptic crosswords.

Well, the Bacchus statue has to be something like "Where the good things in life are" or "god of the good life" :lol: :lol:

Chimney pot - "goes up in smoke" or "going for a smoke" or how about "smutty - ooh errr, missus!"

Angel - "it's halo from her (or him)"

How about a reference to Mary Poppins/Dick van Dyke for the chimney pot?

How about;
Chimney pot- where your Granny might get a warm seat?
Wire Angel- A heavenly telegram?
Bacchus Staute- He enjoys many a jape, with grain and grape...
