Quick question about baby clothes

Post: # 195234Post StripyPixieSocks »

I am in the middle of setting up a kind of one person charity making baby clothes for premature babies and perhaps a few other good causes, just because I would like to do something worthwhile.

However to fund this I need to also make some clothes to sell in order to fund the yarn I need to make the donated clothes.

Now my question is; We all know people like to dress babies in white and pastels but would anyone (or does anyone) know if they would dress their wee ones in darker colours such as Royal Blue or Fire Truck Red or Purple for instance??

I know there's an 'alternative' or 'Goth' market out there for black baby clothes but I wondered about other colours than black and would they have a wider appeal other than a minority group of people?

Thanks in advance :hugish:

Hi there,

My little lad is 6months old today and I have seen a great selection of various baby clothes for the small fella. Largely in pastel, often making him look like a gay sailor.

I think that darker colours can be perfectly pleasant, without having to go to the goth extreme. My favorite clothing for him is a couple of baby grows that he has that are olive green almost and a bright orange T-Shirt (it matches one of mine :) )

So to answer the question sure bring on the bold (purple may be a bit much though..)

Hope that helps.

Regards

I`m sure that there`d be a market for vibrant colours for baby. If you look in shops you see lots of colours used, now, not just the white and pale pink/blue of yesterday.
Certainly, the kind of parents who`d go for individually styled baby gear would probably also go for bright colours too.
I think baby might like it too.

I think primary colours would be great, but also colours like terracotta, olive navy and raspberry look super cute on babies.

Great thing to do by the way, good luck with the venture.

I knit baby cardi's for my daughters friends, and while I really want to only knit white if the sex isn't known, or pink or blue if it is, I know they prefer bright colours. I have just done a navy hoodie for a new born! ( the mum gave me the pattern) hope this helps. pbf.

Carn't think why we have to have pale colours anyway as childrens clothing is usualy primary colours!!! People are far too traditional, I bet you would sell stuff, I would buy bright coloured things if I had a baby (NO CHANCE)
Enjoy lifes journey while you can!!!

My 'babies' are 24 & 18 now, but when they were nappy-aged my S-in-l made them clothes in cerice, navy, snooker-table-green etc & took so many orders from other Mums that she ended up employing two fellow fashion students.

I only knitted stuff for them in bright colours, as pastles looked awfull on their olive skins. They both grew up loving lots of colours. Navy is great for mixed race kids and a damn site more practicle than white or cream for baby clothes!

Down with the 'nothing' nougties...up the twenty-something colours!

& the very best of luck with your new venture. :thumbright:

This is a lovely idea, best of luck with it,my girls were always in bright colours, I beleive every life needs a bit of colour, we also liked them in what we call earthy colours too like terracotta etc.
