Internet Explorer users at risk.
Re: Internet Explorer users at risk.
Germany and France have warned their citizens about using Internet Explorer, the UK are far to behind microsoft to protect or warn their citizens
For the best web experience and security, I (the sitegeek) strongly recommend upgrading to Firefox , Opera, Safari or Google Chrome

It's what I have and the only thing I know. What am I at risk from?

The same old think - hackers coming along and taking information off your machine MMM. Be brave - try another one. Firefox is easy enough, Google Chrome is supposed to be easy enough. It's just a case of learning new things on a computer and that depends on your courage.

Noooooooo I hate things changing on my screen and I can't even stand updates because things move and I can't find them.
I did try some other browser once but I hated it. I'm staying put.

Don't keep any personal info on it then MMM. Bank details or anything that could be useful. The ones who are doing the hacking aren't benevolent but a bit nosey. They're there to cause trouble, get info/money/fake IDs etc.
I've got Firefox (and Opera on my old pre-birthday laptop has been formatted and is now my business machine). They're both really easy to use. I'm sure if you gave one a chance you'd get used to it quite quickly.

I've been using firefox since i got my own computer back in2001. never looked back. the only time i used IE in the last 3 years was to download firefox on this PC, then when i got my netbook i used a firefox install thingy on a thumbdrive; transferred from my big PC.
my bank wont let me save my details on it, nor will paypal.
my router has a hard-wired firewall, and i have a separate firewall on each computer (no, not the preinstalled windows one!)

Re: Internet Explorer users at risk.
Have you looked for anything named Mozilla? The default program is C\program files\Mozilla Firefox - you could try looking for that.
Otherwise you might need to try again.

here is the register article MS will bring out a patch..Millymollymandy wrote:Noooooooo I hate things changing on my screen and I can't even stand updates because things move and I can't find them.I did try some other browser once but I hated it. I'm staying put.
all browsers are likely to have problems.. none are infalible. hackers are mostly going for the mass market ones.. IE and firefox..but they will get around to the smaller ones too

Re: Internet Explorer users at risk.
I don't know what you mean by that - I access my bank account through it but I have to type in my passwords each time. I don't have those passwords typed in a document on my computer though. Amazon seems to keep my banking details though so is that a problem? But they'd still have my details whatever I used.Green Aura wrote:Don't keep any personal info on it then MMM. But why is it suddenly a problem? People have been moaning about Microsoft for years but there must be millions of people who use Microsoft stuff. Are they all suddenly being hacked into?

Re: Internet Explorer users at risk.
I don't think so, but these others are so much better protected it doesn't seem worth the risk.
And by personal info I mean full name, dob, address, passwords, anything that will allow someone to become you! Unfortunately that does happen and, it seems, increasingly often.

hackers are always trying to find a way in, and they have this time. they will do the same to other programs.
to keep safe, you need to keep private info off the computer whereever you can, this is why I dont give my birthday in the birthday list here, for example. and i never take part in those 'fun' games where everything names their previous pets and old addresses for a laugh.. given that these are the kind of questions often asked for security.
but we are all vulnerable.. dont be led to think that a different browser will mean you are safe.
