What's in a name?
My son Luke was registered as Luca. However he has always been called Luke. Suddenly he has decided he wants to be Luca.It will take some adapting but I suppose it will not be too difficult as they are so similar.
Having been muttering about it this morning, Mack pointed out that
My baby sister is Jayne Ruth but is always Ginny to the family
I'm Alice but I was registered as Alicia Robyn
My brother is Max but was registered as Alexander Manuel
My other brother is Dan but was registered as David Andrew Nicholas (note the initials)
My older sister is Loren but is registered as Louise Rebecca
He is known to everyone as Mack but he is really Mark. And no, his surname doesn't begin with Mac!
He hadn't even realised that my Mom is actually not Eve as he thought but Evelyn.
So how many people use totally different name to the one they started with, discounting nicknames?

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

My ex's Dad used to be called Jack I was bemused at his funeral that his name was actually a completely different name (that I can't remember)
My Granddad on my Dads side was Jim and his name was James
I used to be called Jay and my name is Nicola but it was from my middle name Jayne that I got the nickname though my favourite nickname was Hedgehog because of a haircut I used to have at school. Was amusing several years after leaving school I met my then boyfriends friend and it was the very guy who gave me that nickname as he was at school with me. I'll never forget him opening the door, looking shocked and saying "HEDGEHOG!!!!"... the look on my then OH's face was hilarious

My Nana on my Moms side was always called Jill and her name was Lillian

Re: What's in a name?
My grandad Jack was actually christened John; whereas my grandpa John was actually christened Jack.....
My middle name is Ann. I'm named after my Auntie Mag (Margaret). My sister's middle name is Margaret, she's named after....my Auntie Audrey. Go figure.
My mum's name is Irene, but everyone calls her Jude. I don't know why, I asked once and just got an odd look.

I took my dog to play frisbee. She was useless. I think I need a flatter dog.

My mother was christened Betty - short form of her mother's name Elizabeth - which she hated. And declared when Dad died that henceforth she was Lisa. Awful trouble with the probate mind.

Re: What's in a name?
I have an uncle Bud whose real name is Milton but I don't think anyone has called him that in more than 70 years. Then I've an aunty Jean but her real name is Betty.
Another aunty is known by her middle name and my dad was known by his 2nd christian name. But Uncle John is called ....... John.
(all on my dad's side - on my mum's side everyone's just called by their given names!).

Re: What's in a name?
I have 3 given names - I'm know by the second one but have to use the first for official stuff - like a the docs - so the Doc calls me by my first name and I have to remember that and respond!
Let us be lovely
And let us be kind
Let us be silly and free
It won't make us famous
It won't make us rich
But damn it how happy we'll be!

Re: What's in a name?
Having been brought up to call my parents by their first names, I always called my dad Tim and so was a bit shocked when I tried to find him at his office in my teens and found out he was called Stephen!
Apparantly someone picked him up as a baby and said 'oh, look at Tiny Tim' and this somehow stuck to the point where even his mum then called him Tim from that point on and us kids were never told anything any different.
Being a conspiracy-theory-laden teenager at the time I of course found this a terribly lame explanation of the double identity

Re: What's in a name?
I have a really really incredibly dark memory associated with my real name, so I go by Elizabeth. Which helps, because if I'm on the internet I don't want my real name displayed anyway. Even then, people call me Liz, which is a short version of my fake name.
And of course, I have my modelling name.
It's awesome for figuring out how I know people. If they call me by me real name, they're a bill, bank or landlord. If they call me Liz, they're a friend. If they call me M, they're a fan. hahaha.

Re: What's in a name?
I use Keith, the name that was on my birth certificate. Boring, I know.
Hippie names are common in this community. There is a Wind, a Rain, and a Fireweed - no surnames used. There is also a C and a J - surnames used, but no first name.

Re: What's in a name?
My OH is a Keith too - there's nothing much you can do with Keith is there?
Apart from the interesting European pronounciations as lots of Europeans cannot make a TH sound, so he's Keet or Kees (not like keys! like kiss but with a ee sound) sometimes.
