First of all our removals company tried to rip us off by leaving half of our stuff in the flat in London and then trying to negotiate another £1300 from us to get the rest. Basically they broke the contract, left us with no pots and pans, things to eat off, no chairs and no bed for a week. Then he started screening our calls so we had to get my MIL to phone and he moaned about it and told her it was going to be expensive for him to go round and give us another quote and he wanted it up front. We told him to piddle off, borrowed £500 from my Dad and Pat hired a van and with alot of help got the rest of the stuff here... we're just waiting to take the removals company to court to sue the living daylights out of him.
Not only that but they sent one guy down here with the stuff (which is breaking Health and Safety regulations) and when we opened the back the stuff was everywhere as these idiots obviously hadn't heard of cargo nets. So if you ever come across 'Move Me Easy' (obviously the name is ironic) avoid them at all costs because they are robbing scum who made our life hell for 4 days.
Then on the way down 12 miles outside of Truro our car blew a head gasket and we had to be relayed to the new place... it's going to be a PITA to fix and probably expensive so by the time we got here I was in tears and Pat was fuming and piddled off.
We got an average nights sleep on the blow up bed which the next day got a puncture in it so we had to sleep on the floor but then we went downstairs and looked out of the kitchen window and everything melted away and the cries of 'we've made a really huge mistake moving here' died away in the blissful quietness of Carnyorth village.
It's beautiful here, the people are amazingly friendly, the cottage is beyond wonderful (despite it's rough edges here and there) and we've stopped seeing it as a temporary stop-gap until we find a place with a garden and we have decided to stay here for... well... as long as the landlord lets us I guess lol.
Here's a couple of photos: http://www.flickr.com/photos/skyblue197 ... 21/detail/
We haven't had much time to take many photos as there's alot of unpacking and slacking off on the sofa in front of the fire to be done. After 7pm you could hear a pin drop and the most exciting thing that has happened in the village this week was a bus and a lorry trying to get around the bend at the same time in opposite directions and getting stuck!
Makes a change from robberies, stabbings and SWAT teams blocking off your road at 2am to raid drug dens any day!
The landlord has given us permission to turn the front garden into a herb garden... basically we can do what we like as long as it doesn't turn into a jungle again like the last tenants left it :) The landlord by the way is a really nice, jolly Cornish-man as we met him a few days ago when he came to put some bits back into the cooker that's here!
So, apart from all the aggro, we're here, we love it and it can only get better from here on in
