So what other non fiction books do you have?

Post: # 183790Post Millymollymandy »

Carrying on from the what cookery and gardening books you have..... so what else do you have?

We have a load of DIY/woodworking books, plenty on birds and bird ID, butterfly and moth ID, wildflower ID.

Lot of travel books and guides, loads of road atlases for various European countries and lots of language books and dictionaries (notably French, Greek, Italian, Dutch and even one on Fijian  ).

Then odds and ends from photography to Monet to fountain pens (hubby used to collect old ones!), quite a lot on cats, a few on chickens and one on dressmaking which I chose as my 'Progress in History' prize from High School. 2 on knitting and a few more on horses and ponies.

Also hubby has a number of books on history including a lot of WW1 and WW2 and D-day.

I'm sure there are lots more but I can't remember!

OH SHIT! Yes of course the self sufficiency ones, including the Bible. In fact actually I think we only have John Seymour and the Bible.

Too many books!

Loads of wildlife ID, books on woodlands, rainforests and stuff. Some science ones left over from uni, especially entomology and habitat management.

Craft books! About sewing, crochet, needlework, painting etc. I love crafts.

A few things on DIY, a few on self sufficiency, how to build yurts, household management, first aid, how to fix things. Sneaky uses for everyday things is a good series of books!

Partner's got loads on religions and philosophy. Also, archaeology and history.

A couple of language books, we're learning german and I have a book on modern standard arabic but I'm really bad at it.

Can't remember what else! I bet there's more.

Set of Encyclopedia International, bought in 1965, books on building smoke houses and solar driers, sausage making and recipes, building your own Hydroponics systems, chicken and animal keeping, many books on Theatre Set Design, Theatre Lighting and Sound engineering.

Could go on, but as we have about 11sq mts of book selves plus 5 or 6 boxes under the bed. So as you can see I to am addicted to books.

Oh Poop I too have John Seymour S/S and of course the BIBLE as bought down from the mountain by the" HAMILTON TWINS"
I can't do great things, so I do little things with love.

Lawks. Where to begin.

In my office are three tall bookcases. One is for work books (ie legal tomes) and publishing in general. Second is for 'classic' literature, poetry, plays etc. Third one is a bit of a rag-bag - there's allsorts on there (eg sociology textbooks, philosophy books, some fantasy/sci fi).

In the hall is one bookcase. It contains fiction - 18th/19th century women authors, some more fantasy - travel guides, and some new age self-help type books.

In the living room we have a wall of books. That's where you'll find all the pottery/ceramics books (OH is a potter), plus gardening books, craft books, knitting, and art.
Also comparative religions - everything from the bible to druids and the tibetan book of the dead, via some books on quakerism and non-conformist religion.
And 1st editions of Aldous Huxley.
And all our language books - we're busy learning French at the moment, but there are Latin, German, Spanish and Italian books there.

Finally, in the kitchen, there are the shelves of cookery books.

Think that's it. For now...

Where to start?

Philosophy, politics, feminism, environmental stuff - all of them mine and many of them are my uni textbooks I can't bare to part with.

Every computing language book known to mankind, from Spectrum Basic to god knows what - OHs collection.

Gardening, preserving, cooking, foraging, sewing, crocheting, knitting, enamelling, pottery, papier mache, weaving etc, etc - mine

Chaos theory, history, folklore and legends, and any other nerdy stuff you can think of - mainly OHs but a few mine.

For me it's mainly music, music history, art history, some philosophy books (including religion) and more history books, and "social issues' books (i don't really know what to call them, but they are basically issue centred books).
