If you can't say something nice...

Post: # 175817Post Brij »

Hi everyone,

In the past few months I've noticed a few uncomfortable situations on the board, and, of course, this is inevitable in any sort of forum.

I use ish despite the fact I'm probably the least self-sufficient around here because I have a few values in common with a majority of members on the board and I like the atmosphere and support that everyone offers each other.

So I'm not wading in to stick my oar in, however tempting it may be, but I thought it might be nice to just say thanks to all of the mods - they make difficult decisions to keep things pleasant for us all - and to Andy and John in particular, who do call a lot of shots.

Only after the last fish has been caught,

I know we can't all agree about everything, but if you disagree with something, just move on to the next thing. pbf.

I think we can share ideas that disagree. That's inevitable in any forum. But you should be aware of how your intended tone may come across differently in writing. That's why there is a preview button at the bottom of the reply page. Preview what you want to say because sometimes mild, even constructive critism, can be read as harsh and judgemental. So if you disagree, just try and do so by writing a post that you would not mind receiving from someone else. The whole "do unto others" rule applies here really well. For instance, would you want to receive a reply post that assumes things about you, sounds judgemental or offers absolutely no effort to see things from your perspective?

On a final note, I think the mods do a great job on here too! :thumbright:

I whole heartedly agree with all the prior posts re: being nice! If any discussion is getting a wee bit out of hand don't continue the discussion. It takes two to have a discussion!!! so to quote a friend of mine "when you see crazey comming, cross the street!"
or as i like to say, don't feed the beast. the MODS ARE DOING A GREAT JOB. thank you all.

Thank you for all the complements :grouphug:  You lot do a lot of the work yourselves, by self moderation and that makes things a lot nice for everyone - so take a well done to you too!

That's what I love about this forum. We can agree to disagree about many things and generally respect different points of view. If anyone crosses the line then the mods soon sort us out.

They all do a great job and we wouldn't be here without them.

Oh, I disagree with most of what's written here - I just pretend to go along with it all, so you will all like me....

Haha, just kidding!!

Add me to the list of lowly serf members who appreciate all the mods hard work

Actually, I prefer chatting to some-one with a different perspective on things. The fact that we all look at the world in our own personal way makes for a much more interesting discussion.

Count me in the 'We Love the Mods' group too :grouphug:

Indeed. Most things get sorted out by simply biting your tongue and being nice. You should lock away any view you have which may appear to mark you out as different, even if your opinion was being sought.

Thats the way to go I am sure.

No I won't use a smiley because I've decided to turn into Boboff, as he's turned all nice all of a sudden. Grumble grumble.

Ah come on Boboff, yes sometimes we do (just like in real life) have to bite our tongues so as not to give offence. I was desperate to make a joke on another forum when someone wrote that she'd made 'onion budgies' but because I know she is sensitive about her not very good spelling, I bit my tongue. It was hard but better than upsetting her.

The difference is not stating your opinion, when asked, for fear of causing a fence, and not being a pedant and pointing out obvious typographical errors that anyone with half a brain should be able to spot when previewing their post.

* Previews

* Smiles at childish joke made at ones own expense.

* Thinks that I should get a life and stop being such an arse
