What the ****?

Post: # 170230Post Green Aura »

I've been looking for a while now at making my own sauerkraut. The pot I've had my eye on has dropped in price by about £20, and a delivery charge of £4.95, so I thought I'd get it.

Anyway, I went through the whole process, almost to pressing the button to submit order when I read this
PLEASE NOTE: The amount that will be reserved on your creditcard at the time when you
place the order is somewhat higher than the order amount, this is because of the shipping costs which cannot be calculated online. This amount is only a reservation amount, the true amount will be officially charged to your creditcard when the invoice has been printed and shortly thereafter the package will leave our warehouse which is located in Germany.
Living in the Highlands, I'm used to exorbitant charges for delivery, but to have some unknown quantity to be taken off my credit card in order to pay for unknown delivery costs is a little too scary for me.

Anyone seen anything like this before - I wondered if this was common practice in Europe?

That seems really dodgy to me...

I'd avoid any site that couldn't give me an exact quote BEFORE asking for my card details. Try emailing them for a quote?

AVOID!
Even if they aren't dodgy they are lazy - I know from selling things online that postage can be a real bummer to calculate but I wouldn't buy from someone who can't be bothered to be organised.

No I don't like the look of that either. Can you email them for a true delivery cost given your address? Surely they can work that out easily enough?

OH says to leave well alone for the time being. So I'll keep looking elsewhere.
