Has anyone got a foolproof flapjack recipe?

You all seem to be such proficient chefs. Well here is a place to share some of that cooking knowledge. Or do you have a cooking problem? Ask away. Jams and chutneys go here too.

Has anyone got a foolproof flapjack recipe?

Post: # 153753Post StripyPixieSocks »

We made some flapjacks from a recipe we found on the internet and it was crap... well, it tasted OK but everything crumbled really badly.

We used honey instead of Golden Syrup and Dark Muscovado Sugar as it's what we had in but it as dreadful... well OH likes it but I don't.

Does anyone have a foolproof recipe I could use please, I've never been able to make the blinking things and I would love to!

We would like to use honey and were told it could be swapped for the Golden Syrup but I'm not totally sure on that one seeing the mess we have on the side.

We just want a basic recipe that we could maybe add in some chopped dried fruit for a snack on the run or something.

Meanwhile I'll go back to my non-disaster crumpets for the freezer!

I was never very good at making them till I figured out that if you heat the marg in a pot on the stove to melt it before stirring in the sugar and oats it all clings together much better...

I use a very similar recipe to SG, and I have some in the oven right now

Good luck :flower:

Thanks girls, just one more question though...

No Golden Syrup or honey??

Do they come out nice, soft and chewy or brittle and hard?

Seems like an awfully odd recipe as I have never seen a recipe which doesn't melt the butter, syrup and sugar in a pan first...

Hi
Just thought I'd add my recipe, as its a little different. Its meant to be slightly healthier than a more traditional version.

80g Brown sugar
40g Butter
60g Marg
250g Oats
1 Banana
2tbs Honey

Melt butter and marg over heat.
Add sugar and honey, stir well.
Add oats gradually
Mash Banana, and add
Spread onto baking tray, 220c 15 mins
Stand 2 mins, score into portion.
Cover tray, and leave for 6 hours.

Everyone in my house loves these. They are nice and sticky in the middle.

Can't wait to try the crumpets!! Went into town yesterday and forgot to get rings, silly woman!!

That's the recipe I used I think sans banana because it said you could leave it out and it all went horribly wrong :(

LOL I get to the other end of the flat and forget what I've gone for but yes, crumpets are brilliant although I have to say they're better if cooled and re-grilled rather than just eaten right out of the pan, they're a bit squidgy like that we found out today!

The first time I made flapjacks they were soooooo good!

Then I realised the recipe I'd snaffled off tinternet said oil or butter - I'd put in both!  But they were everything a good flapjack should be - a bit crispy round the edges and soft and gooey in the middle.

Heyho, they've never tasted so good since

No they are perfect, all chewy and yum... but I only do 15 mins at 190oC

I also add what ever comes to hand, some nuts, dried fruit, seeds etc... all works beautifully

Love the look of the banana recipe... might try that one next.

I was about to answer, but it looks like "flapjack" means something very different over there than it does over here!

What's a flapjack in Wisconsin then Ellendra? (or is it something rude? ). We need to add it to our Self Suffish UK/Aussie/American translation dictionary!

Yeah flapjack is a kind of pancake over in the USA usually eaten by hillbillies / rednecks (so my American friend informed me several months ago)

I'm glad it's not just me that has a problem with flapjack! How can something so basic be so hard to do right! I've just tried your recipe and it's in the oven - I'll let you know how it does!

I got the recipe I use from my nephew who made them in home-economics and he whips them up whenever we visit

I think it is probably the easiest ever - helps too that it only has 3 ingredients, all of which I always have in the house... and my MIL who is a coeliac can eat them too

Its one of the many slang terms for pancake.

(Unless pancakes are also something different there?)
