I found an old tree man in the woods today

Thought you would like to see this, our local woods has adapted some trees and ponds for the visitors centre, its a great place for the kids to learn and they have some wonderful sculptures.
is there a resemblance

The picture was taken at Guisborough forest. I do like that at hamsterly Deborah, i must go and see it i dont live to far from there either,
thanks for the compliments but after 30yrs + i am well weathered, that why forresters have beards to hide behind

Both the sculptures are fabulous, we have carved mushrooms in our forest really effective too

They are both gorgeous!!
MMM - I guess the trees aren't harmed because it is just the outer layers of bark that are carved - leaving the inside and more delicate layers unharmed.
that is just a guess though.

The tree in Guisborough was badly damaged in a storm and shattered clean in half, but the ivy that you see growing around it for hair thrived so they decided to make a feature out of it, well done i thought , the tree was naturally pollarded,

Oh I couldn't tell, thought it was the tree's leaves! Is the tree still alive though?

I love both the sculpures! I assume the tree must be dead because I think removing that much bark would cause a lot of damage as I'm pretty sure the living, growing part of the tree trunk is just below the bark and is where the sap rises.
Hmm, we've got a tree a bit like that in the garden, but I'm not sure my artistic skills extend that far - is a lovely thought though, I quite fancy having a green man watching over my veg plot
