Feeling restless
Hi,
Bit of a moan I am afraid.
Thing is I am just feeling really restless at the moment, I know I am feeling fed up when I start searching for smallholdings in Wales on the internet.
Thing is, we cant afford to move house cos we have negative equity, also even if we did move house we would both probably have to go to work still to pay the mortgage.
Feeling really fed up of working and working and working, and having no time to do the things I want to do.
Does anyone else get to feeling like this?
What do you do to snap yourself out of it?

Re: Feeling restless
I know exactly what you mean. It was my NQT year last year (you are teacher too, right?) and I never had time for anything but work... and it was extremely depressing.
I'm not sure I can give any good advice other than make sure you take time to dream your dreams! And if appropriate you could make a plan... long-term perhaps. i.e in 5 years we'll be ready to move - and set interim goals to have saved a certain amount of money or to have paid off a certain amount of your mortgage. But maybe you don't work well like that, everybody's different.
Finally, don't worry, I think you are doing very well. You seem to have time to grow veg and do all kinds of 'ish' projects that you mention here. I was much worse last year, I planted seeds in the garden and didn't have time to do anything and it turned into a weed patch. Make sure you really enjoy the things you've already managed to do.
Hope I helped a little :)

Re: Feeling restless
Erm - I'm afraid that I retired. Trouble is that was some 18 months after normal retirement age and I'm not really fit enough to do all the daft things that I've never had time to do any more. So here I sit in a normal flat running an allotment.
Doesn't mean that I don't have silly ideas about what I'd like to do too but there's not the money to do it on a state pension.
Mortgages are the millstone of the working classes aren't they?

Re: Feeling restless
Thankyou fizzy izzy that does help.
I am indeed an NQT, (still got reports to write for tomorrow!)
I think I do need to think more about what I have already achieved. Thanks for that.

Hey HB!
We are quite happy to stay where we are but I am champing to get out of the 50-55 hour a week job and do more stuff around the nanofarm, so I do understand and sympathise.
I think a bit of dreaming does help, and putting down plans on paper can be a therapeutic thing to do too.
Anyway

Yes - always make plans!
- I taught for 19 years before I was brave enough to quit and go to Art School at the age of 40. While doing the degree I spent seven weeks in Tasmania - the best seven weeks ever - and got funding to do it! Yes. I had to pay for the Art School - but I have never regretted it!

Re: Feeling restless
Hey Helsbels, redundancy doesn't always have to be a negetive thing. I was made redundant 11 months ago, & it has opened the way to do/achieve all sorts of things, & tho' i know your circumstances are different to mine, try to look for any positives. As for being restless, i'm afraid it's that S.A.D. time of year that doesn't help. Be hopeful, tho', another few weeks & things may look a bit rosier, with the on-set of spring & lighter evenings, etc. Best wishes, Andrew.
it's either one or the other, or neither of the two.
Re: Feeling restless
I got made redundant last July. Bets thing that ever happened to me. Immediately my OH jacked her job in and we used the redubndancy money to move back to Cornwall. I haven't got a clue what the future holds but I'd rather be skint, in the country and happy than doing what I was doing before. Not a teacher but a tutor in a college travelling 40 miles a day just to get money to spend in shops. Just as much work but less money

P.S. Sorry....that looks a bit pretentious but as a father of 6 (all grown up now) who has been well below the povert line on a few occasions I have found it to be true

I hope with the other 'posters' on this thread that it turns out to be a blessing in disguise.

Re: Feeling restless
Sorry to hear that honey. In line with another thread - does he have any dreams/plans he could maybe put into practice. It sounds like a few people on here used redundancy as a springboard, rather than a crisis. At the least it could be a fill-in until he gets a new job.

That's such a lovely sentiment, and true too.
Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Re: Feeling restless
Ohh... sorry to hear about your OH, Hels....
As others have said, can you use this as an opportunity to change track on your life?
Sometimes it takes a 'catastrophe' in our lives to take a deep breath & do something drastic.....
18 months ago, hubby & I sat & talked candidly about our futures... it was 'do something drastic'... or get divorced.... and now we're happier than ever, living in Ireland like hobos!!
Hope you resolve things - and watch for the little signs that will cheer you up, like the bulbs budding - always makes me smile
